Historical Sources in Current Research

Through new editions and the digitization of older sources, easier access in being provided to important information on the history and former use of natural resources by the peoples of the Russian Far East. The intention is to create a comprehensive database that electronically connects historical information with more recent ethnological documentaries on these themes. This provides a suitable base for fruitful discourses, especially among social and cultural anthropologists and natural scientists, as well as with scholars from other disciplines.

  • Bibliotheca Kamtschatica: This project is the publication of comprehensive travel accounts by German explorers and scientists since the mid-18th century. This anthology, which will be published in series format as part of the "Bibliotheca kamtschatica" by the Foundation for Siberian Cultures, will be enriched through essays by historians and social anthropologists.  » more
  • Bibliotheca Sibiro-pacifica: This series supplements the existing "Bibliotheca Kamtschatica" and will publish descriptive accounts and reports by scientists who traveled in other regions of the Russian Far East beyond Kamchatka in the 18th and 19th centuries.  » more
